Pics or it didn’t happen! It’s summer again, which means it’s prime time for vacation selfies next to unique tourist attractions, sandy beaches, and maybe even a Ferris wheel or two! But if your smile isn’t quite as white and sparkly as you’d like it, smiling for all those family photo-ops could be cause for anxiety. But don’t despair, getting a brighter smile doesn’t have to take all summer. In fact, with veneers, you can change the look of your smile in just a few appointments!

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin strips of porcelain that are overlaid onto your teeth to make them appear whiter and more uniform. Veneers can not only change the color of your teeth but cover any chips and cracks as well. They can even slightly change the shape of misshapen teeth!

How Long Do Veneers Take to Install?

The veneers process is quite simple. First, your teeth will be prepared for your veneer installation. Your dentist will remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of each tooth that requires a veneer.

Next, your teeth will be measured by a 3D imaging system. Once your scans are complete, your dentist will order your veneers!

When your veneers are ready, your dentist will carefully place each one on the appropriate teeth, and make sure they fit evenly and securely before bonding them, and just like that you’re ready to show off your new smile!

How Long Do Veneers Last

Once your new smile is ready, with proper care you can expect to enjoy it for up to 20 years. Be sure to use your treated teeth gently. No biting into hard foods with your front teeth, as this can cause your veneer to fall off. Instead, cut hard fruits or vegetables into smaller bites, and use the back teeth whenever possible.

You should care for your veneers the same way you do your natural teeth. Brush twice a day for at least two minutes at a time, floss at least once a day, and use mouthwash if preferred.

Can I Damage My Veneers?

While they are much harder to stain than your natural teeth, you can still stain veneers by smoking or consuming dark colored food and beverages, so be sure to maintain your oral hygiene routine.

Have A Great Summer!

If you’re ready to have something to smile about this summer, veneers make an excellent choice in restoring a more youthful appearance to your teeth. Speak to your dentist today about your options and get ready to say cheese!
